County Waterford, in Munster, sits on Ireland’s south coast between Cork and Wexford. Waterford pulls tourists from its surrounding counties thanks to its picturesque seaside towns, like Dunmore East, Ardmore and Tramore. Waterford’s name originates from Old Norse. The city of Waterford sits at the mouth of the Three Sisters, the rivers Nore, Suir and Barrow, forming an ideal port for ships both large and small. Waterford is said to be Ireland’s oldest city, founded by the Vikings around 914AD. This rich nautical history is not forgotten by Waterford, with tall ships ordaining its crest and coat of arms. Its harbour still plays tribute to the past with memorials, statues and the Tall Ship Regatta. This ‘W’ flag also pays tribute with three ships sailing proudly on the horizon.
