Hen's Teeth HIFI Presents Cian Ó Cíobháin: All Night Long

Hen's Teeth welcomes Cian Ó Cíobháin for a special edition of Disco Dána.

Cian Ó Cíobháin hails from An Ghráig in west Kerry. Since decamping to Galway to study in the city’s university in 1993, he has been involved in DJ-ing and running events around the city.

His first ventures into DJ-ing in his adopted city involved running indie discos along Salthill’s once celebrated clubbing strip, in long-gone venues such as The Castle and the Warwick. Later, he honed his craft with Cyril Briscoe at their seminal club night 110th Street which held residencies in venues such as the Town Hall & GPO in Galway, as well as regular parties in Dublin, Limerick and Cork. Cian also promoted and DJ’ed at the legendary Boogaloo warehouse-style parties in Galway’s Black Box with Aran McMahon in the 00s.

Though he’s been DJing in clubs for decades, Cian is probably best known for his curation of RTÉ RnaG’s An Taobh Tuathail - which has been described by Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals as “the most radical radio show in the world” - and which will soon be celebrating a quarter of a century on the air.

UK music site The Quietus wrote “ It’s an obvious … comparison to call presenter Cian Ó Cíobháin the Irish John Peel, but his laid-back manner, combined with the eclectic and astonishing mix of sounds played on the programme, make him more worthy of the mantle than any other DJ I’m aware of in Britain or elsewhere today.”

Since restrictions lifted in early 2022, he’s been hosting parties under a new banner Disco Dána in intimate venues around the country. Bringing over three decades of experience to the party, his playful DJ sets include the freshest new beats from around the globe, sliced up with a healthy dollop of disco nuggets & forgotten classics, expertly woven together to unite all the tribes on the dancefloor.

We are delighted to announce that Cian will be hosting the first ever Disco Dána party at Hen’s Teeth on Saturday 4th November with an all-night long DJ set and will be dropping the first tune at 8 pm. Some of the best tunes get played early in the evening, so make sure to come down early.
